Smart Export Guarantee (SEG)

What is a Smart Export Guarantee tariff?

Get paid to generate green energy! Help get the UK to Net Zero with Pure Planet’s Smart Export Guarantee tariff.

If you’ve got solar panels on your roof, battery storage in your home or even a wind turbine in your back garden, at times through the day, you’re likely generating more energy than you need. With our Smart Export Guarantee tariff and a Smart meter, you could export your surplus electricity back to the grid, and we’ll pay you 5p per kWh for generating it.

Who is eligible for seg?

Our SEG tariff

Both current Pure Planet Members and non-Members can access our SEG tariff. There are a few eligibility criteria that ensure we can reliably measure the energy you’re exporting to the grid.

  • You’re part of the Microgeneration Certification Scheme, or a similar official scheme
  • You have a compatible meter that can measure half-hourly export, for example a Smart meter
  • You don’t recieve Feed in Tariff (FIT) export payments for your generation

Our full SEG terms can be found here.

To sign up, tap the button below or email seg@purepla.net — please let us know your name, address and mobile number and we'll be in touch. We’ll do a few eligibility checks, then ask for copies of some important documents, like proof of ownership of your installation, and your ‘MCS Certificate’, which you should get from your installer.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I sign up for SEG?

Email us at seg@purepla.net and let us know your name, home address and your mobile number. We'll be in touch. We’ll do a few eligibility checks, and ask for copies of some documents, like proof of ownership of your installation, and your MCS Certificate.

How long does it take to get set up?

Once you’ve let us know that you’re interested in our SEG tariff by emailing us your name, home address and contact number, we’ll be in touch to ask you for more details about you and your home, and check that you meet our eligbility criteria. We’ll also need copies of some important documents, like a proof of ownership for your generation.

Once that’s done, we’ll register your export Meter Point Administration Number (MPAN), which can take around 21 days. Then we’ll need your first export meter reading, and you’ll be good to go.

Do I have to send my meter readings?

We’ll email you to ask for your opening export reading once you go live with us, and then four times a year in April, July, October and January. We’ll let you know how to collect the right reading from your meter, and it shouldn’t take more than a few minutes.

If Pure Planet supplies my energy, can I send meter readings through the app?

Not at the moment. We’ll ask for your meter readings via email.

If Pure Planet supplies my energy, can you credit my account?

Your SEG payments will be made quarterly, after you’ve sent your export readings, seperately from your energy account. We can’t credit your normal energy account with your SEG payments at the moment.

I get Feed in Tariff payments at the moment. Can I sign up for SEG too?

You can sign up to our SEG tariff, but you’ll need to stop your Feed in Tariff (FiT) export payments. To do this, you’ll need to get in touch with the supplier that pays your FiT payments and let them know before you get in touch with us.

How can I get the Members' rate?

To be eligible for our Members rate, you must have your energy supply from Pure Planet at the same property as the SEG installation, and it must be in your name.

What if I don't have a compatible export meter?

If you don't have a compatible export meter, we'll fit a second generation Smart meter (SMETS2) for you. This can take up to 3 months and occasionally we might find a reason that we can't fit a Smart meter at your home, for example if there's low signal in the area the meter sits. You won't be able to register for SEG payments until you have a compatible export meter.
